Getting Or Setting Up Internet on the Sciphone

Viewing the web is a very nice experience on large, touch screen clones with the flow touch interface (like the SciPhone.) You don't have to keep zooming into the tiny screen to actually read the wording. Viewing the web on these phones is a lot like viewing it on a laptop - very easy to read and friendly to the eyes. Sometimes though, I get emails from folks who have conceded that this a cool phone, but that the Internet just doesn't work for them. Actually, the Internet not working on these phones is usually a pretty quick fix. If errors or issues are popping up, it almost always comes down to a few common things, which I'll outline in the article below.
Are Both SIMs Open And Properly Installed?: First things first, are both of the SIM cards that you have inserted showing up in the log on menu of the phone. For example, if you inserted two T Mobile SIMs, then you should have two "T Mobile" words listed in your welcome screen. If you don't see this, the phone isn't reading the card - probably because it's not installed properly. The bottom SIM (or slot two) should have the gold side facing up. And, if you're only using one slot, you'll have to go to the SIM settings to reflect this.
Do You Have Data On The SIM Card?: Sometimes, I'll get emails from people asking me how to set up Opera mini or how to tweak the WAP or data settings so that you're getting free Internet. I don't know any way to do this. If you're going to use data or the Internet, then you'll have to pay (at least nominally) for it. This doesn't mean that you need a contract though. Many pre paid or pay as you go cards include data. There are usually several options here. You pay by the KB (which is by far the most expensive option), you can buy a package on the card (like 1MB of data for $4.99.) Or, if you are heavy user or frequent large sites, you can take a look at the prepaid cards that allow unlimited data, talk, text, etc. These usually average around $20 - $25 and they last for around 30 days.
Have You Changed The WAP, Data, MMS, GRPS, And Java Settings?: Once you're sure that you have all the tools in place, go in and see what carrier your WAP settings are pointing to. If you're having problems getting on line, it's likely that your phone is still on the factory settings or that you're pointed to a Chinese provider. So, you will need to go in one by one and change every setting that effects your being online. You will go in this order. First the data. Then, the WAP / GRPS. Then, you'll change the MMS. Finally, you will change the JAVA if you want to go online with a browser like Opera Mini (which compresses the data and saves you money.)
You can either contact your carrier to get the settings or you can go online and buy one of the super cheap (less than $5) instruction manuals that will take you through this step by step and will often show you the short cuts and the safe guards that will make the phone work at it's most efficient and speedy best.
This may seem like a lot to think about, but it usually takes only a few minutes to change your settings and as little as $5 per month (or $20 per month for unlimited data) to be up and happily surfing the net.

I9 Vs I68 - Is the CECT I9 Better Than the SciPhone I68?

Lately, I've been receiving a lot of emails from folks wanting to know about the "SciPhone i9." When I explain that the SciPhone often refers to the i68 which is a different, (but also good) phone, the next question is usually, "well, which one is better?" I'll try to answer that question in this article, as well as go over some of the similarities and the differences of the features of these two phones.
Both The i9 And The SciPhone i68 Are Excellent, Small, Shake And Tilt Quad Bands: Both of these iPhone clones are newer models that have added the shake and tilt feature and an extra band to the original P168 model, making this original iClone quad band. They are also smaller, lighter, and thinner than previous models, weighing about 100 grams.
Java Support: If there was one criticism of the P168 (other than it being tri band), it was that you couldn't download or use third party software with it because there was no Java support. Both of these new clones include Java 2.0, which allows for unlimited additional downloads, games, and possibilities.
Camera Quality And Both Sims On line At Once (Dual Sim Active): Most of the i68s have a 1.3 mega pixel camera, while most true i9s have a 2.0 mega pixel camera (although I've seen them as high as 3.0 MP). True i9's have what is called "dual sim active." This means that both cards can be on line and working at one time. SciPhones typically have "dual sim standby" which means that you have to switch back and forth between the two.
One problem that many buyers have though is that sellers sometimes use these terms interchangeably. You really need to read the item description to determine what you are truly getting. There is an upgraded model to the i68 (called the plus) that has new "flow touch" firmware, so if this is important to you, make sure you see this in the item description, whether you are looking at the i9 or the i68.
The price on both of these models is extremely similar. Since both can hold up to 8GB, what you pay typically depends upon memory included. But, even models full of memory are often in the $100 and up range.
So, Which Is Better? Which of these phones are going to work out better for you depends on what you must have in a phone. If you really want both cards on line at once, you'd likely want the 9. If the newest firmware is most important the upgraded i68+ will probably work fine for you.
Unfortunately, since the sellers continue to use these terms interchangeably, it's important that you read the full description and ask questions. Because it's absolutely possible to get one of these phones that includes quad band, dual sim active, the latest firm ware, and a 2.0 MP or higher camera.
You really can't go wrong with either phone. Both are great quality phones with very high customer satisfaction. They are very similar to one another, but some consider the differences vital, so it's important to read the descriptions.

What is the Difference Between an iPhone and a SciPhone? How Do They Compare?

I often write about the dual sim, iPhone clones. Recently, I received an email which asked "what are the real differences between the SciPhone and the iPhone? Which is better?" I'll try to answer this question in the following article, as well as go over some of the features of the SciPhone.
Dual Sim, A Removable Battery, And Bonus Features: One of the major differences between the two phones is that the clone allows for two sim cards. This means that you can have two phone numbers or two carriers. It's popular to use one sim for a cheap talk plan and another for data or the Internet. Prepaid GSM cards work fine on this phone which can end up saving a lot of money. You aren't forced into any long term contract and you can use whatever GSM carrier that you like or that works for you.
Additionally, the SciPhone has a removable battery which frees you from being tied to the manufacturer. The original phone requires you to have the battery removed and replaced by the manufacturer.
Finally, the clone has FM radio and the "shake and tilt" feature which the original does not. Shake and tilt means that you can advance MP3s and songs by just flipping the phone with your wrist. Likewise, you can take the picture from portrait to land scape or to wide screen by just tilting the screen.
Now onto what the iPhone has that the clone doesn't. The clone can hold up to 8GB of memory. The Apple can hold up to 16. Also, you can't go to the apps store with the knock off However, the Sci does have Java support which has literally thousands of free applications and downloads. I'd argue that many things in the apps store are also available via Java.
Similarities: Obviously, there are a lot of similarities between the two phones as the knock off is modeled after the original. These phones look very much alike and it is hard to tell the difference when held side by side. They both have the over sized flat screen with the finger touch interface. Both allow web browsing (and moving around the site using only your fingers, messaging (MMS, SMS, email), MP3 / MP4, digital camera and web cam, and Bluetooth. You can transfer data and sync the phones via USB, Bluetooth, or the SD cards in the phone.
Cost: Probably the most persuasive things that draw people to the SciPhone is price. You can often get this phone for around or under $100 and you can use whatever cheap carrier that you like, as well as prepaid or pay as you go. My son uses this phone for usually under $20 per month, including Internet, talk and messaging.
So, what's the bottom line? If you're heart is dead set on the iPhone, you're probably going to be satisfied with nothing less. As good as the clone is, it isn't the original phone. However, if you want the original features without the high cost and the commitment, the Sci is a really nice alternative.
